What is it?
67, said "six seven", is a catchphrase. It comes from a song, went viral through basketball videos, and became a gesture: palms up, hands moving up and down. Your kid says it because their friends say it. That is the entire explanation.
Does it mean something bad?
No. It is not a code, not a drug reference, not a gang sign, not a sexual thing, not a cry for help. We know the internet has taught you to assume the worst about numbers. This one is clean. It literally means nothing, which is the joke.
Is it a phase?
Yes. Also, it has lasted longer than most phases, so plan for a year.
Why do they do it all the time?
Because it is a reflex now. Any 6 or 7 triggers it: a clock, a price, a page number. Your kid is not being deliberately annoying (most of the time). They are responding to a cue the way you respond to your phone buzzing.
What should I do?
- Nothing. Ignoring it is the fastest way to reduce it.
- Do not ban it. Bans are content. Your kid will tell their friends you banned it, and the friends will do it at your house.
- Do not do it yourself unless you are prepared to do it perfectly. A parent doing the gesture badly is either the funniest thing your child has ever seen or the most embarrassing, and you do not get to choose.
- Learn the rules if you want to be tolerated: two words, never "sixty-seven"; hands alternate, not together.
