The wind is the quiet reason your "perfect" flick keeps missing. You lined up the arc exactly right, released at the right height, and the ball still drifts wide at the last second. That is not bad luck, that is the wind meter doing exactly what it is designed to do.

What the meter actually shows

At the top of the screen during a run sits a small horizontal gauge labeled WIND. A line extends left or right from the center, and the further it stretches, the stronger the crosswind pushing on your ball. Nothing extending from center means calm air, a full extension in either direction means you are fighting a serious gust. The color of the indicator shifts to a hot magenta when the wind gets strong enough to genuinely wreck an unadjusted shot, versus the usual calm lime tone.

It resets every single shot

Here is the part that catches people off guard: the wind is not a level or a stage, it rerolls after every shot you take, make or miss. There is no "windy round" you have to survive and then it is calm again. Every single flick happens under a freshly randomized wind value alongside a freshly repositioned hoop. That means you can never memorize a pattern, you have to actually glance at the meter before every single release.

How wind actually bends the shot

Once the ball leaves your hand, the wind applies a constant sideways push for the entire flight, on top of gravity pulling it down. A light wind barely nudges the trajectory. A strong wind meaningfully drags the ball toward one side well before it reaches the rim, and the longer the ball is in the air, the more total drift it accumulates. This is why a soft, high-arcing shot from far away is more wind-sensitive than a flatter, quicker flick from close range.

Using the aim trail to compensate

The dotted preview trail that appears while you are dragging already accounts for the current wind, which is the single best reason to trust it over your own gut feeling. If the wind is pushing right and the trail curves short of the rim on the right side, you do not need to guess a correction, the trail is already showing you the compensated path. Adjust your drag angle slightly against the wind direction until the trail lines up with the hoop, then release.

Strategic patience

Because wind rerolls after every attempt, you never have to "fight through" a bad gust. If a shot presents itself with brutal wind and an awkward hoop position, remember that missing costs you nothing but the shot itself, and the very next attempt gets a completely fresh wind roll. There is no penalty for a cautious, well-aimed miss beyond the seconds it burns off your 67 second clock, so do not force a low-percentage shot into a strong crosswind when patience is basically free.

Wind versus the clock

The one real cost of playing it safe is time. You only get 67 seconds total, and every missed or overly cautious attempt is time you cannot get back, especially with the timer counting straight through your decision making. Balance goes like this: early in a run, take the free reads and let bad wind shots go. Late in a run, when the clock is thin and you are close to landing exactly on 67, sometimes you have to trust your read and fire anyway.
