LaMelo Ball did not write the song, did not say the words and did not invent the gesture. He is still, by any fair measure, the reason you know what 67 is.
A height that happened to be a hook
Ball is listed at 6 feet 7 inches. That is an unusual height for a point guard and commentators mention it constantly, because his game (long arms, wild passes, deep threes) only makes sense once you know it. In February 2025 a TikTok editor took one of those broadcast moments, cut the audio right after "six-seven", and dropped Skrilla's hook on top. The rhythm matched perfectly. It looked like the commentator was starting the song.
Why the edit worked
- Timing. The spoken "six-seven" and the rapped "six seven" line up on the beat. The edit feels like a magic trick.
- Highlights. Ball's game is made for montages: no-look passes, half-court shots, celebrations. The sound gave every clip the same energy.
- Repeatability. Any player, any sport, any 6'7" measurement could be edited the same way. Within weeks there were versions with football players, MMA fighters and, inevitably, tall kids at school.

Asked about the meme during the 2025 season, Ball laughed it off and did the hands. He has been photographed doing the gesture at games, and fans in Charlotte shout it whenever he touches the ball. He has never claimed credit for it, which is exactly why the internet keeps giving it to him.
The 67 effect on basketball
Once the meme crossed into real arenas, 67 became a live event. When a college team reaches 67 points, the student section erupts. Broadcasters started avoiding the number on air to prevent the reaction, which of course made it worse. Some scoreboards have been seen skipping from 66 to 68. We cannot confirm that last one, but we want it to be true.
The part nobody planned
Ball's height was a fact on a roster sheet. Skrilla's line was about a street. A stranger with a video editor put the two together for fun. That is the whole meme economy in one sentence: nobody owns the joke, everybody adds to it.
