67 in the UK: From Playgrounds to Premier League Chants

Britain took a little longer to adopt 67, then did it the British way: at football, in the rain, with a chant.

The UK was a few weeks behind the United States on 67, which is normal for a basketball meme in a football country. Once it arrived, it stayed.

Playgrounds first

British primary and secondary schools reported the full pattern by autumn 2025: page 67, 6:07, the silent gesture across the classroom. The British addition was the accent: "six seven" in a South London accent is a different meme from the American one, and both are recognised.

Then football

Football took the number and did what football does. The 67th minute became a chant window. Shirt numbers 6 and 7 got the treatment. And when a club's fans discovered that a rival's founding year, stadium capacity or league position contained a 6 and a 7, the number became a weapon. A cheerful, meaningless weapon.

The words

"Six seven" stayed in English, obviously, but the UK developed a spoken variant: "six, seven" with a distinct pause, as if reading a bus timetable. The deadpan delivery fits the national style better than the American scream.

The reaction

British media covered 67 slightly later and slightly more grumpily than American media, which the kids enjoyed enormously. A morning television segment attempting to explain the gesture is now itself a meme.

Schools banning it

Several British schools tried, with the same results as everywhere: bans are content. One school reportedly allowed "one six seven per lesson", which is the budget technique and, as far as we can tell, the only thing that has ever worked.

The leaderboard

The UK is a reliable top-ten country on the 67 Tap counter and the most consistent: no surges, no collapses, a steady stream of taps at all hours. Which is, in its way, very British.
